Sonatas XII-70 (Industry)

Right by the railroad tracks two towers sit, waiting to load seeds and grain
On the tracks a train waits to be loaded and packed so it may travel again.
The new water tower sits behind and between – shows the bright summer sun as it plays
Modern industry thrives keeping old towns alive, with new jobs and old, both here today.

17605 scanUnited Cooperative/Horicon grain elevators, the City water tower, and a Wisconsin Southern hopper car. There could hardly be a more emblematic image of rural southeastern Wisconsin than this. If you can feel this image, you can feel the Place. The photo was taken in June of 2022 with Pentax 67 medium format SLR equipped with a 200 mm f/4 SMC Pentax 67 lens on Ilford HP4+ film. The negative was enlarged optically with a Beseler 23CIIXL enlarger and a 100 mm f/5.6 Schneider Componon-S lens on Ilford Multigrade FB Classic Double Weight Fiber Base silver gelatin photo paper. Processing was done archivally using Kodak chemistry, with a final toning with Kodak Rapid Selenium Toner, treated with hypo clearing agent, and washed in an archival washer.

All aspects of this print were handled in an authentic, pre-digital manner. Archival processing will ensure the maximum life span for this print.
