An Emerald Isle Experience: A Visit for Vacation
I’d like to give you just a brief taste of the
commercial side of a beach vacation milieu such as Emerald Isle (EI). EI
is mostly like any east coast beach town – fun and superficial, although
much more low-key than many. It has a typical beach resort commercial
area, including bars, shops, restaurants, bike rentals; all the same can
be seen from Key West to New Jersey, and beyond. Just what you want (or
need) on vacation!
Let us take the roads to the commercial district.
The EI “Crystal Coast” Welcome Center will greet us, if we wish to stop
in. We give a nod to the day’s activities – but come back at night!
These stores are ridiculous with sales and
advertisements – but are strangely fun to shop in. Daytimes of shopping
and spending for those things “essential” for beach life. Will any be
used evermore? We gleefully swap ordinary prudence for a bit of hedonism
– isn’t this what vacation is for?
These bars may be empty in the day – but see them
in the night! The night life of bars, music, and drinking, can be
enticing, but our perspective definitely changes with age and family
situation. The nights in Fort Lauderdale and Key West are remembered –
and can be duplicated here – do we miss them? Not really …
