Introduction

A photo essay exploring the destination of a family “beach week” at an Atlantic coast tourist spot in North Carolina. This particular destination, known as “Emerald Isle” on the “Crystal Coast” on Bogue Banks Island is cute, comfortable, cozy, and all a family might wish. Rather than place ourselves at odds with this, here we wish to embrace and enfold ourselves in the comfort.

This is an artificial world, a fun world, a world of vacation, a “beach week” destination indisputably. Certainly commercial, it holds all the elements necessary for vacation fun: pleasant environments, beaches, shopping, dining (partying), tourist attractions, family activities, (places to spend). Rather than trying to deconstruct this environment, let us jump in with open hearts (and blank minds!)
